SINGERS are wanted for a new operatic group.

Barnard Castle-based charity InterOpera is founding a new group devoted to performing operatic chorus music and is looking for singers of all ages and voice types.

InterOpera has been performing for more than a decade. In 2013 it presented the Cuthbert Oratorio in Durham Cathedral to mark the end of the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition and earlier this year it organised a Cathedral concert commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen Belsen concentration camp.

The first meeting of the new InterOpera Chorus will take place at St Leonard’s RC School in Durham on Saturday (July 4) from 10.30am to 12.30pm. It will be working towards a concert in Bishop Auckland on Saturday, November 14.

No experience is necessary. Sessions, to be held fortnightly, cost £3 per person. Anyone interested should call Jill Cole on 07802-603-008, email jill.cole2008@gmail.com or visit interopera.org

Ms Cole, the company manager, said: “We will be expecting people to sing quite complicated work in the original Italian.

“But this shouldn’t put anyone off. We’re here to provide expert help and advice – and ensure that everyone experiences the joy of singing the rich music of classical opera.”
