A RANGE of work by an up-and-coming North Yorkshire artist will be taking over at one of the county’s galleries later this week.

Spectrum Picture Framing and Gallery in Thirsk is showing work by Robin Puplett from July 4 to 11.

Mr Puplett has been painting since childhood but it is only recently that he has turned a lifelong passion for art into a full time career as an artist. Classically trained in both fine art and graphic design, his preferred medium is acrylic on canvas although he also enjoys working with oils or pencil.

In 2014 he was shortlisted and featured in the ‘Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year’, with actor Gary Kemp sitting for him.

He draws his inspiration from the scenes, landscapes and skies of the local area he lives in, and can be often found on the North York Moors or out in the villages sketching and photographing.

Spectrum co-owner Tim Roberts said: “We have been working with Robin for around 18 months, and after a sell-out solo exhibition here in 2014 we felt that a second exhibition would present an exciting opportunity to showcase Robin’s expanding portfolio of local landscapes.”

His partner Jo added: "Each year we aim to support a local artist as they strive to develop a career in what recently have been very challenging times for artists and in Robin, we believe he offers something new and energetic in his representations of North Yorkshire.”

The artist has donated a framed limited edition print as a fund raiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
