ART-LOVING youngsters have been all of a flutter – creating spectacular origami butterflies and birds.

The young people who attend the twice-weekly art club at Rural Arts in Thirsk are frequently tasked with doing something different.

And their latest challenge was to turn their skills to the ancient art of paper folding to create a colourful art installation.

Once they had mastered the art each was carefully decorated before being attached to branches and hung from the ceiling.

The club, which is for five to 16-year-olds from Thirsk and the surrounding area, meets twice a week and takes an experimental approach to art.

“They’ve done all sorts of things in the past,” said spokesman Sophie Backhouse.

“They created banners to mark the anniversary of Magna Carta and even a mannequin on a bike to celebrate the success of the Tour de France.

“They have even worked digitally, creating their own comic strip.”

The club gets together on Thursday afternoons and also on Saturday mornings.
