SEVEN shopping trollies have been removed from the River Skerne by the Environment Agency.
Officers went to the river at Mill Lane, Haughton Green, to remove a fallen tree the trollies that were lodged downstream of the footbridge.
The items were deemed a flood risk after blocking the river’s flow and The Environment Agency’s Andy Foster said: “The willow tree and all the debris caught up in it was creating a blockage which is ultimately deemed a flood risk.
“We winched the tree free and then followed up by removing the shopping trollies – we thought there were only two or three but in total removed seven altogether.
“Every day we’re out and about ensuring anything which is a potential flood risk is removed and the watercourses are running freely.”
