A FLOWER grower is bringing smiles to the region’s streets by surprising residents with beautiful floral gifts.

Clarey Wrightson is leaving bouquets of her handpicked flowers in Darlington, Hurworth, Yarm and Northallerton for people to take home to celebrate British Flower Week.

The flowers are grown by her husband, Barney, at Manor Garden - their picturesque cutting garden in Eryholme, near Darlington - where they live with their three children.

“It is a way to promote British Flower Week and it seems like it would be a fun thing to do,” said Mrs Wrightson, a former primary school teacher and costume designer.

“You never know who is going to take them home. Hopefully once they are found they will be shared on social media.”

To celebrate British Flower Week, which runs until Friday (June 19), Mrs Wrightson is also providing flower crowns and buttonholes for waiters and waitresses at The Bay Horse, in Hurworth.

She will also be one of a number of North-East flower growers taking part in demonstrations and workshops at RHS Harlow Carr, in Harrogate, tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17).

Mrs Wrightson will host cocktail and flower crown evenings at the Houndgate Townhouse, in Darlington, this summer. Sessions are £55 and include a three-course dinner.
