A NURSING home is appealing for residents to donate unwanted clothes to give to victims of the earthquakes in Nepal.
Residents and staff at Rosedale Nursing Home, in Catterick Garrison have teamed up with Catterick Christian Community Methodist Church to help relatives of the 8,000 people killed and 14,000 injured in the disasters on the April 25 and May 12.
The church's deacon Joy Sykes launched the appeal at the home, where she delivers services for the residents, and prayed for the eight million people who had been affected by the earthquakes, which saw 700,000 homes destroyed or damaged.
Julie Dempsey, activities coordinator at the home which provides nursing, residential and dementia care for the elderly, said clothing and footwear, suitable for all ages, was wanted.
She added: "Our staff and residents were keen to get involved in the aid efforts and we thought that since we receive many visitors and our home is so active in the local community that we were in a great position to spread the word about the appeal and help out in the relief efforts by hosting a clothes drive.”
The home is also seeking people who are set to travel to Heathrow Airport to drop off the donated clothes with aid agencies.
