POSTCODE Lottery players in North Yorkshire are to share in a £2m jackpot.

Players living in the winning postcode sector, which has been announced as Scarborough's YO11 3, will discover how much they have won at a celebration on Saturday, May 30 at the Scarborough Spa, South Bay.

This is not the first time the charity lottery has landed in Scarborough as players in YO12 5 won their share of £1m at a celebration in September 2010. More recently, four players were Daily Prize winners and scooped £1,000 when postcodes in the area were drawn in February.

"It isn’t just players in Scarborough who are benefitting from People’s Postcode Lottery as players award at least 25 per cent of every ticket to charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally and have so far raised an incredible £69.2m," said a spokeswoman for the People's Postcode Lottery. "One local organisation that has received funding from People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, is Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team which received £9,000.

"Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team is a volunteer search and rescue service. Thanks to funding from players, the team were able to purchase waterproofs and climbing helmets, which are vital pieces of equipment for people who are working in inhospitable environments, in adverse weather conditions and often at night."

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, will be on hand in Scarborough to present the eagerly awaiting players with their winning cheques.

She said: “Congratulations to all of the lucky winners of May’s Postcode Millions in Scarborough. I’m sure you are all looking forward to discovering how much you have won!”

Organisers will reveal more details regarding the cheque presentation, including the minimum amount winners can expect to receive, in the coming days at www.postcodelottery.co.uk.
