MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Teesside West endured all seasons of weather during their efforts to raise funds in aid of ShelterBox last Friday and Saturday in Yarm High Street.

Mindful of the recent tragic events in Nepal the public responded magnificently and donated over £3,000 over the two days. Local businessman Alasdair Beveridge, owner of Building & Renewables, Darlington, presented Rotarian President Tom Gaskarth with a cheque for £700 whilst another gentleman on a cold Saturday morning gave collectors a bag of sausage rolls for sustenance followed by a £50 donation in the collection bucket.

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities around the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis. A complete ShelterBox aid was erected outside the Town Hall enabling people to see that it includes a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children's activity packs. £590 will allow ShelterBox to deliver emergency shelter and other lifesaving equipment to a family who have lost everything following a disaster.

Following yet another earthquake this week in Nepal the collection for ShelterBox will continue and the public can still contribute sending any cheques made out to the Rotary Club of Teesside West c/o The Secretary at 13 Strait Lane, Stainton TS8 9BB.
