A FAMILY-oriented festival set to feature music acts ranging from Billy Bragg to The Wedding Present has announced its arts programme.

The sixth running of the Deer Shed Festival, at Baldersby Park, near Thirsk, from July 24-26, will include sketch comedians Pappy’s, Edinburgh Comedy Awards winners Funz and Gamez, comedy-cabaret troupe Slightly Fat Features and international beatboxer Shlomo, alongside illusionist Otiz Cannelloni presenting an abridged history of magic.

To mark the festival’s Up In The Air theme, there will be shows by paper aircraft expert Andy Chipling and bubbleologist Samsam Bubbleman.

There will be spoken word shows from Andy Kershaw and Paul Arthurs, better known as Bonehead from Oasis, while Billy Bragg, children’s author, Emma Jane Unsworth and punk singer-guitarist Viv Albertine will give live interviews.

Interactive shows will include a comic book workshop by the creator of The Beano’s Derek the Sheep, Gary Northfield, walkabout acts and a pedal-powered flycycle.

The festival will also include theatrical performances from Open Umbrella Theatre, Bird-Forward Theatre Project, Central School of Speech and Drama, and Tusk Theatre and storytelling sessions.

A spokesman for the event said: "With Deer Shed Festival’s commitment to presenting family-friendly, PG art and comedy shows, the arts line-up strikes an impressive balance of being suitable for kids, whilst not being solely aimed at kids."
