MIDDLESBROUGH Football Club Foundation held their very first golf day with former players Danny Mills, Gary Pallister and Craig Hignett among those to tee off.

The Foundation event at Rockliffe Hall was supported by Adidas Tesco DC and Shutter Media and it was a success all round.

Diane O’Connell, the club’s fundraising and events officer, said: “Our first ever charity golf day was an overwhelming success raising a significant amount of money for our life changing community projects. Thank you to all those who took part and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”

The Foundation is an independent charity founded in 1996 with an aim to a range of people across Teesside through a range of sports, health and education projects.

SEAN Lauder, the 2014 Captain of Crook Golf Club, followed in his predecessor’s footsteps and chose the Butterwick Hospice as his charity of the year to support – and handed over a cheque worth £3,300.

Lauder organised and took part in various fundraisers throughout his year as captain, including his Captain’s Charity Golf Day and Three Club Challenge, where eight members played at three golf courses in one day.

This year’s captain Dennis Pinkney has also chosen Butterwick as his charity to support. His first fundraiser is his Charity Golf Day on July 11 and teams are invited to enter at £120 for a four-ball, shotgun start with prizes on holes. To enter call 01388 603003 or www.butterwick.org.uk/crookgolf

AN Ingleby Barwick golfer has clinched winning a limited-edition BOSS watch for achieving a hole-in-one.

Russell Rickaby, 47, scored his ace on the 162-yard, par-three 17th at Wynyard, and the 15-handicapper was rewarded with membership of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1Club and a timepiece.

The scheme is open to any golfer whose club uses HowDidiDo – a free-to-use, web-based social network for golfers – and anybody playing in official club competitions is eligible. Currently, more than 1,800 clubs use the website.
