Memories were stirred in the Guisborough Bookshop last weekend when Keith Lipthorpe came to promote and sign copies of his book, Club Fiesta – the Real Story on the 50th Anniversary.

Mr Lipthorpe founded the Club Fiesta in Stockton in April 1965 and until its closure in 1976 saw top stars, such as Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison, Tommy Cooper, Harry Secombe, Les Dawson and others, performing on the stage at the Club.

Mr Lipthorpe, now 82, rated the singer Jack Jones as his favourite artist at the club which was renowned for its Fiesta Fawns waitresses and was synomynous with the swinging sixties.

Visiting the Bookshop and purchasing a copy of the book, Guisborough resident Julie Booth recalled seeing her favourites, the New Seekers, at the Club and said, “It was the atmosphere. You were close to the people performing and you could get the original chicken in a basket.”

The book is available from the Guisborough Bookshop, priced at £13.99.
