ICONIC works of art have been given a quirky makeover.

The Materialistics have created an exhibition that gives centre stage to a selection of knitted, crotcheted and sewn artworks.

The North-East collective, a group of knitters and stitchers from novice to expert, have recreated works including Klimt’s The Kiss and The Scream by Munch

A Grand Tour, commissioned by Customs House and sponsored by the Port of Tyne Authority, will be on show at the Crown Street Gallery in Darlington from Saturday, May 9 until Thursday, July 2.

Workshops will be held alongside the exhibition when members will be on hand to discuss their work.

A knit and natter session will take place on Saturday, May 16 between 2pm and 3.30pm and a session on ‘alternative knitting’ will be held on Saturday, June 13 from 11.30am.

Children can learn how to make pompoms and French knitted loom bands on Friday, May 29 from 11.30am until 1pm or 2.30pm until 4pm.
