BOMB disposal experts were called to Darlington after old ammunition was found by a member of the public.
The man found what he thought could be an old ammunition shell in a field, and brought it to the car park at the back of Darlington Police Station.
Bomb disposal experts from Catterick Garrison were called and found the device to be a piece of old anti armour ammunition.
As a precaution, police initially closed Park Place, which runs behind the station, before the device was taken to a field off the A66 to be disposed of safely.
