A PUB landlord is hoping drinkers will sink a few pints after brewing the official beer for Darlington Arts Festival.

Alan and Susan Hogg, of The Surtees Arms and the Yard of Ale Brewery, on Chilton Lane, Ferryhill, County Durham, brew beers on site.

Mr Hogg has created Culture Vulture, a 3.8 per cent light ale which has a twist of citrus in the taste, for the festival.

The beer has been brewed using a mixture of pale malts and British and Slovenian hops.

Landlord Mr Hogg said: “We’re very pleased and proud to have been asked to do this. It was quite a surprise and we’re over the moon about this.

“It’s difficult to say how much we will brew but it will only go to pubs in Darlington and it’ll probably end when the festival does.”

The Surtees Arms has been named as the pub of the year by the Durham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).

Mr Hogg also brewed a special beer, called Cuthbert’s Cross, for County Durham day in 2014.

Darlington Arts Festival is an annual event now in its third year which features acts at various venues round the town.

This year it starts on Monday, April 20, and it runs through until the end of May.

John Dean, chairman of the festival, said: “We always welcome the support which we receive for the arts festival. We hope people like Culture Vulture.”
