A HUSTINGS event will see Darlington’s election candidates field questions on environmental issues next week.

The Friends of the Earth (FotE) have organised the hustings in a bid to give members of the public chance to quiz the candidates on a range of subjects from fracking to recycling.

Representatives from Labour, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Green Party, UKIP and the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition have been invited to take part in the event, taking place on Wednesday, April 8 at the Friends Meeting House on Skinnergate.

Peter Plant, Darlington secretary of the non-political FotE group, said: “We regard environmental issues as highly important.

“We want to give people the opportunity to speak directly to candidates while they pit their views against each other.”

The FotE group are now gathering questions ahead of the event, which begins at 7pm.

They are inviting members of the public to submit their questions, which will be considered and used to craft around six to eight questions to be put to the candidates at the hustings before a more informal question and answer session.

Questions, which must concern green or environmental issues, can be submitted to darlingtonfoe@gmail.com until the evening of Monday, April 6.
