TRANSPORT chiefs have won an award for devising a cycle-to-work scheme for staff.
Glasgow-based Strathclyde Passenger Transport is now officially a Cycle Friendly Employer.
The award recognises the measures put in place by SPT to inspire staff to bike to work - 24 workers have joined the organisation's Bike Users Group.
Staff are now able to lease bikes from SPT and the fee is deducted from their wages.
Other improvements include better parking for cyclists, with new facilities at Broomloan and the Renfrew Ferry, and new showers.
Brian Curtis, a director of Cycling Scotland, presented SPT with three Cycle Friendly Employer certificates, for improvements made at Consort House, Broomloan and Buchanan Bus Station.
SPT sustainable development manager Keri Stewart said: "We're pleased with the way staff have responded and hope the number who chose to get on their bikes will continue to rise."
