SCOTLAND'S Joyce Lindores moved back into contention in the singles

event of the Atlantic Rim Women's Bowls Championship in Florida

yesterday when she beat Jersey's Sheila Syvret 25-20 in her fifth-round

clash.

Earlier, Lindores had unexpectedly lost by a similar scoreline to home

country player Anne Barber but her win over Syvret added to first

defeats for England's Norma Shaw and Phillis Nolan, from Ireland, left

Lindores just one point behind the four leaders.

Shaw leads on shots aggregate ahead of South Africa's Barbara Redshaw

with Nolan in third place and Rita Jones, from Wales, in fourth.

It was Jones who ended the winning run of Shaw recovering from 23-16

down to win

25-23.

Lindores moved ahead of Syvret with a maximum 4 on the second end and

ran out a 25-20 victor after a marathon 22 ends.

In the fours the Scottish rink of Sarah Gourlay, Janice Maxwell, Senga

McCrone, and Frances Whyte crushed the United States 28-11 but then had

to recover from 15-11 down with four ends to play to force a 17-17 share

of the spoils with Jersey.

''We are still in contention in both events but we can't really afford

to drop many more points,'' said Scottish manageress Eleanor Allen.
