BAGHDAD: A Turkish man who confessed to killing two British

journalists in 1991 in northern Iraq wants to return to his homeland for

trial, a newspaper reported yesterday. Hasim Ciftci, who has been in

jail awaiting trial for nearly two years, told Turkey's Milliyet

newspaper he had no faith in justice in northern Iraq, where Kurds rule

over a semi-autonomous state. The Iraqi Kurds have their own courts. ''I

know I committed a great crime. But I want to be tried in Turkey,'' he

was quoted as saying.Ciftci testified that he killed the journalists,

Nick Della Casa and his brother-in-law Charles Maxwell, who were working

for the BBC.

Ciftci was a translator. He said he killed the pair because they

refused to pay the money he was promised for his services.
