THE Government was criticised yesterday for failing to support

Scottish salmon farmers threatened by dumping of cheap salmon from

Norway.

Mr Andrew Welsh, SNP MP for East Angus, said: ''Once again the British

Government has ignored a Scottish industry. It involves many jobs not

just in actual salmon farming but in transport, processing and selling

of salmon.''

He was planning to speak out strongly for salmon farmers when

Parliament resumes.

He said the the Irish Government had done more to help our salmon

farmers. The reference price fixed by the EU was arranged after an

application by the Irish Government. The British Government had

abstained from voting.

Mr Henry McCubbin, MEP for North-east Scotland, said the British

Government had acted deplorably.
