December 9.

David MacPherson is correct in his assertion that the Duke of

Sutherland statue is part of local heritage (December 8).

The heritage it represents, however, is one of violence and is a

constant reminder to the people of Sutherland of oppression.

A museum or visitor centre may well be a suitable memorial to lost

generations who were scattered to the North American colonies, or indeed

moved to other local communities, but I believe that a majority of

Sutherland people would enthusiastically witness a low-level bombing

practice on the monument by a squadron from Leuchars.
