Roy Hodgson insists he would be happy for Harry Kane to play in two post-season friendlies this summer as the tension between Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and the England manager appeared to ease yesterday.

Hodgson hit out at Spurs last week for committing to take Kane on a post-season trek to Australia for friendly against Sydney FC on May 30.

Pochettino has voiced his reservations about the striker suffering from burn out, so the England manager suggested the Tottenham boss would be better off leaving Kane at home.

It was assumed Hodgson's anger would increase when it emerged Spurs were going to play the Malaysian national team three days prior to their match in Australia, but the England manager said yesterday he had no issue with that at all.

"It doesn't bother me one bit," he said.

When asked about whether he thought Spurs would take Kane on their post-season jaunt across the other side of the world, Hodgson added: "I would be surprised if they aren't.

"The thing about these tours which are commercial tours to satisfy contracts made with big sponsors is they want the big-name players to be there and he is a big-name player."

The reason Hodgson's mood has changed somewhat is due to the fact that he has held constructive talks with Pochettino and club chairman Daniel Levy recently.

Hodgson spoke with Levy at White Hart Lane when Spurs beat Leicester 4-3 last weekend and the England boss took the opportunity to speak to Pochettino yesterday when England trained at the club's Enfield training base.

"It was a long chat with Mauricio, it was good to see him," Hodgson said.

"I am pretty confident that between the club, Daniel, Mauricio, and Harry himself and (Under-21 coach) Gareth Southgate, they will find a solution to that without any problem at all.

"It was the first time I have had a long chat with him since he has been at Tottenham. It was a good opportunity.

"The so-called problematic tour they will have at the end of the season which for me is not a problematic tour at all.

"I think, speaking to Mauricio, they are very wise to go for a week at the end of the season when it's quite relaxed and you don't have to really work your players hard.

"If that means you don't have to go flying around at the start of the season in pre-season that seems to be a very wise move. The FA are perfectly comfortable with that."

The England Under-21 team are expected to play at least one friendly before the depart for the European Championship in Czech Republic, which begins on June 17.

Although Kane is with the England senior squad this week, Southgate used the striker regularly in qualification and feels the 29-goal frontman would benefit from playing in the tournament.

Hodgson does not feel it is unreasonable for Southgate to want to take the prolific striker to the tournament,

"It needs to be remembered with Harry he has done all the hard work," Hodgson said.

"He has played all those qualifying games, which weren't easy, to get himself to the finals.

"The rest of the country will have to accept that we believe that having done all this work to get the Under-21s to get to the finals it's only normal he will want to play in the finals, it's normal that we will want him there because we want to win the competition.

"I hope they find a solution that everyone is happy with."
