A KNIFE yob is behind bars today for stabbing his girlfriend after he accused her of cheating on him with his brother.

Danny Oxley was given an extended sentence for public protection because it is his fourth offence involving a blade.

A probation report said the Darlington thug is a "high risk" of re-offending - and especially a danger to his partner.

She was at Teesside Crown Court yesterday (Thursday, March 26) to support Oxley, and wept as he was locked up for two years for unlawful wounding.

When he is released, the 23-year-old will have two years on immediate licence recall to prison if steps out of line again.

The judge, Recorder Jamie Hill, QC, told him at court: "When you get drunk, you are unpredictable and do dangerous things."

Prosecutor Emma Atkinson told the court that Oxley has 25 offences on his criminal record - including three robberies.

In 2009, he was jailed for two years for pulling his victim off his bike and threatening to stab him, said Miss Atkinson.

He threatened a police officer with a blade in the same year, and in 2011 he got three years for a knifepoint shop raid.

Paul Abrahams, mitigating, said Oxley's past was worrying, but he was as much of a risk to himself after self-harming.

Mr Abrahams described him as "a bit of an enigma" and said he wanted to go to prison to tackle his drug and alcohol problems.

Mr Recorder Hill said Oxley, of Beaumont Hill, Darlington, had shown "a pattern of random aggressive acts of violence".

He said: "This was a frightening incident, and it is a matter of luck that the injuries she suffered were not greater.

"While intoxicated, you became jealous, thinking she had been seeing your brother. That escalated into a shouting match.

"You need to be monitored, and if there is any further offending, there is a future period in which you can be recalled."

The court heard how trouble flared in Peabody Street, Darlington, in December - three weeks after the couple split up.

Oxley got drunk before he visited the home of his ex, and became angry when she received a phone call from his brother.

Miss Atkinson said the woman slapped his face, and he threw her across the room and picked up a Stanley knife from the kitchen.

He told his terrified former partner "now you'll meet the real Danny" before sticking the blade into her chest.
