A PAIR of hardy bikers are taking on a 3,000 mile challenge to raise funds for charity.

Nick Devers and Graeme Church will be climb aboard their Harley Davidson motorbikes in May to ride across Europe in aid of Teesside Hospice.

Mr Devers, who is an outpatient at the hospice and receives treatment for his primary lymphedema condition, wants to complete the challenge, starting from Redcar and crossing to Spain, France, Belgium before returning to Redcar.

“The hardest part of the challenge will be the long rides, especially the first ride which is approximately 382 miles from Redcar to Plymouth," he said. "But let’s keep our fingers crossed that the British weather is kind to us for that section of the journey.

“Both Graeme and I are looking forward to the camping side of the challenge as we have dreamed of undertaking such a road trip for years and as hard as it’s going to be, we will keep going and enjoy ourselves knowing we are completing the challenge for Teesside Hospice.”

They set off on May 10 to to Plymouth where the pair will hop onto a ferry overnight to Bilbao in Spain. Then they get back on their motorcycles and ride to Madrid where they’ll camp for two nights.

This will be followed by a coastal tour around the edge of Spain stopping at Seville, Almeria, Benidorm and finally Barcelona. The middle section of the trip sees them in France where they will stop in Avignon, Beaune and Paris. After a quick stop in Bruges they will board the overnight ferry from Zeebrugge to Hull, where they will depart for the final leg back to Redcar on May 22.
