NEWCASTLE FALCONS have increased their front-row options with the capture of Scotland international loose-head prop Jon Welsh.

Welsh has moved from Glasgow Warriors on a two-year deal, having made a total of 106 starts for the Scottish side.

The 28-year-old, who stands at more than six foot and weighs in at more than 17-and-a-half stone, will added some power to the Falcons pack next season.

He boasts four senior international caps for Scotland, with his most recent cap seeing him come off the replacements’ bench to score a late try in the Six Nations.

“I think Newcastle are a club with a big future and definitely want to go places and for me personally, it’s the challenge of being able to come down and compete in the Premiership.” Said Welsh.

“I love Glasgow, but this is my seventh season at the club and I think at 28, its good timing for change and to challenge myself in a new environment where the ambitions are high.”
