SUNDERLAND (4-3-3):

6 Pantilimon: Almost caught in possession on a few occasions, but was strong when he came off his line;

6 Reveillere: Had a busy afternoon at right-back with most of West Ham’s play coming down the left through Cresswell

7 O’Shea: Much improved on his calamitous display against Aston Villa last weekend. Dominant in the air

5 Brown: His afternoon was cut short when he was forced off after only 12 minutes with a knee injury

6 Van Aanholt: Caught out by Downing a few times but he was exposed with no winger to cover back;

6 Rodwell: A little wasteful when he got the ball in good positions. Didn’t have much of an impact in the middle

6 Larsson: Solid display in a deeper role and played some accurate balls into the channels

7 Gomez: Got stuck in and worked hard, but also played showed off his passing repertoire;

7 Fletcher: Held the ball up well and worked well playing in a front three alongside Wickham and Defoe

7 WICKHAM: Demonstrated why he should be in the side more regularly and impressed in a more central role

6 Defoe: Should have done better when Wickham’s flick sent him through in the first half

Subs

Vergini (for Brown, 12): Slotted into the game relatively well but was lucky not to give a penalty away when he dragged back Nolan

Johnson (for Fletcher, 73)

Graham (for Defoe, 88)

Not used: Mannone, Jones, Bridcutt, Watmore.

Man of the match – Aaron Cresswell – the left-back was a constant thorn in Sunderland’s side with some excellent crossing
