THE final day of the Coarse Fishing Season on all rivers ended on a disappointing note with poor returns on high and swollen rivers.

The big event on the Swale the RSPS Mike Winney Memorial proved a real struggle with the Holme and Ainderby match length 6ft above normal level.

Bites were at a premium and Pete Miller (Aireborough) needed just one fish for victory. Drawn on peg 137 on the middle of the cow drink at Ainderby bomb and cheese paste accounted for a super chub of 5.0.0.

In runner up spot Simon McArdle (Pontefract) was on peg 112 at Holme and fished the bomb with cheese and lobworm to net two chub totalling 4.14.0 but was left cursing a missed bite.

Only barbel of the match fell to third place Jim Taylor (RSPS) who caught the 4.13.0 sample on the meat from Steve Evans (Doncaster) a single chub for 4.7.0.

Paul Stainsby (Yarm Flynns) ended the season on a high with yet another win on the middle Tees this time during the NYSD Federation Last Day Open.

Pulling out peg 24 opposite the fish locks cottage at Over Dinsdale the venue was over 3ft up and badly coloured but fortunately for Paul being on the inside of a bend he had the advantage of a nice slack. Casting to mid river on the feeder two chub responded to breadflake then added another to cheese paste for 10.8.0 at the scales.

Andy Rowe (Darlington) at Girsby bend on peg nine connected with two chub to the feeder with liquidised bread for 8.8.0.

A massive chub of 6.4.0 from peg seven at Girsby elevated Harry Grocock (Shildon) into third spot.

Further downstream at Yarm, the Tees was up and coloured and pushing through fast for the Yarm AL End of Season event.

Paul Healey (Yarm) led the way recording 4.12.0. Sat on peg 191 above the golf course feeder and worm down the edge resulted in a match clinching bream of 4.0.0 backed by four small roach.

In total contrast Peter Rambow Jnr (Darlington Angling Centre) elected to fish the pole feeder and worm down the edge and caught a succession of small roach boosted by a late skimmer for 4.0.0 at the scales from Stuart Bell (Maver Newman Scott) 2.15.0.
