Richmond and Zetland Harriers

With the relays at Croft cancelled due to a double booking, large numbers of Richmond and Zetland Harriers used the local parkruns to stretch their legs. At Darlington's South Park, Liam Rabjohn continued his excellent form with another PB of 16:47 and was first to cross the line to make it two wins out of two runs.

Carl Jones was again left trailing in the very youthful Rabjohns' wake for 17:01 and second. Shona Fletcher (17:43) continues her marathon preparations with a steady run and was first lady and fourth overall.

Ken Harker also using this as a bit of pre-marathon speed work was 8th in 17:54. Luke Hack another of the young guns was 9th in 18:01 and was followed by his father Dave Hack the elder in 11th.

The ever youthful Nick Mason, who also trains with the club was 13th and Andrew Everard had a decent run in 21:55 and 38th. Mark Fletcher made it across the line in 49th and broke 23 minutes for the first time in over a year. Next to finish was Ryan Canzio in 78th and 24:25, he was followed by Eliza and Simon Withers in 94th and 95th. Joe Withers gave it his all and was 131st in 27:53.

At the Fountains Abbey parkrun Reece Dalton, who trains with the club on a Thursday, tore up the field setting a new PB in the process (16:42). Another second claim runner Sharon Barlow was the first lady in 17:51 and 3rd overall.

Mark Crawford this week turned tourist and was well rewarded for his trip to finish in 5th place in a great time of 18:20. Tori Green another Richmond second claim runner following on from her good showing at Darlington last week was 6th in 18:32. Darlington Triathlon Club

Congratulations to the club’s Junior Triathlete of the Year, Christian Brown, who was presented with his shield at this week’s AGM.

Christian, who studies at Carmel College, had an outstanding 2014 in which he represented the Great Britain junior team at the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada, and qualified for this July's European age-group championships in Geneva.

A dedicated athlete, Christian is affiliated to the North-East Junior Talent Academy and also had a very successful season locally, with first places at the Stokesley and Stockton Duathlons and the Cleveland Triathlon.

He is pictured with guest speakers Harry Springall, manager of Tri Kudu in Richmond, and Dr Bryan English, Head of Sports Medicine at Middlesbrough Football Club.

Elvet Striders

ELVET STRIDERS' most improved female runner of 2014, Sally Hughes was called into action for the North East in the Inter County Cross Country Championships in Birmingham at the weekend.

Sally and her father Mike are active members of the club and are often to be found trudging through the mud at cross country fixtures both locally and nationally.

Eighteen-year-old Sally was selected to represent North East Counties U/20 women last weekend following her strong performances within the North East Harrier League.

Sally finished 109th in a very strong field of 143 helping the North East team finish very respectably mid table.
