LOCAL artists are displaying their work at a charity exhibition this weekend.

The art show at Heighington Village Hall, near Darlington, was launched this evening (Friday, March 6) with a preview night.

The event, organised by Vicki and Mike Lumb, is being held in aid of Butterwick Hospice and Phoenix House Recovery Centre in Catterick, the chosen charities of the Mayor of Darlington.

Mr Lumb, who lives in Newton Aycliffe, is showing some of his own work. Other artists include Darlington's Gina Morton, who paints traditional watercolours and miniatures, and Samantha Holtom, who specialises in fantasy and historical art.

Speaking before the event, Mayor Gerald Lee, who represents Heighington on Darlington Borough Council, said: "I think this is a lovely thought from Mike and Vicki to arrange this on behalf of the mayor's two charities.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the artwork displayed, there will be a lot of local talent on show."

The exhibition, featuring new and established artists, continues tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday from 10am to 4pm both days, with a ticket price of £2 including refreshments.
