GUISBOROUGH now has a new family-run emporium, called Madame Me-Me, at 99 Westgate, with a large range of unusual women's clothing and accessories, stylish furniture for the home and gifts.
The shop is the brainchild of Derrick Langley, who was already well-known in Guisborough when he owned an estate agency, financial and banking agencies, including the Santander brand, which closed in 2014.
Mr Langley aspires to offer an old-fashioned, personal and friendly service and also offers personal shopping, professional interior design services and exclusive evenings.
He is helped by his son, who provides the artistic element to the store.
Mr Langley said: “It’s been remarkable. My son is artistic and talented and he does the buying. It will be a career for my son. As a family we use his talents.
"So far it’s been a massive success. We felt people are fed up with supermarkets offering everything the same. This is unique and creative. There is a lovely mix of things and it’s bringing people in from all over the area.”
The shop has a Facebook page with details of all their stock and which offers advice and recommendations on outfits and accessories and has received over 1,300 ‘likes’.
Comments on the page include “Loved it. Will be visiting again”, “Wonderful service with style and a smile”, and “A much needed addition to the town”.
Mr Langley added: “We have Italian-style clothing which my wife likes. We visited wholesalers, saw the styles and introduced new designer styles and a service for personal shopping.”
The store has recently stocked a range of exclusive clothing from Sarah Santos and Bella Blue, with more on order. Even the mannequins are available for sale.
Madame Me-Me also offers an interior design service with a qualified interior and set designer with a large range of accessories and furniture.
Mr Langley is also looking to acquire new buildings in Guisborough so as to expand his range of furniture.
