CHILDREN sang their hearts out with Durham Cathedral’s Boy and Girl Choristers on Saturday, (February 28) when the group visited Barnard Castle.

Ten children, aged between six and ten, took part in the Come and sing with Durham Cathedral Choristers event which was hosted at St Mary’s Church.

They had the chance to listen to the choristers sing, hear about a day in the life of a chorister, and perform a variety of singing and musical games with the chorister pupils who all board at The Chorister School, in Durham.

The afternoon ended with a short service where all of the children joined the choristers in singing an anthem by Samuel Sebastian Wesley and three hymns.

Headmistress of The Chorister School, Yvette Day, said: “Yet again we have welcomed a splendid group of children to spend the afternoon making music with the Cathedral Choristers.

“We hope that they will remember this experience for years to come, and that more children will take the opportunity to join us for future events.”

A further chorister session will be held in Durham on Saturday, May 2, from 2pm to 6pm, at Durham Cathedral.
