GUS POYET is delighted to have Wes Brown available for tomorrow’s game at Hull City, and has praised the Football Association for their swift overturning of the Sunderland defender’s dismissal in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United.

Brown’s Old Trafford red card was rescinded by the FA’s disciplinary panel this afternoon, meaning he is available for tomorrow’s trip to the KC Stadium.

Brown was dismissed by referee Roger East, even though his team-mate John O’Shea appeared to the player who had done most to deny Radamel Falcao a clear goalscoring opportunity in the Black Cats box.

With East admitting he saw O’Shea’s contact with Falcao, there was no risk of the FA transferring Brown’s suspension to his team-mate, and Poyet is delighted his defence will be at full strength for a game that could prove crucial in the relegation battle at the foot of the table.

Poyet said: “In a very important game tomorrow, we need Wes. We’re very pleased because everything went very smoothly. Everything went by the rules, and people were very honest.

“The referee, the referees’ association, the FA and the Premier League – everything was clear, and that’s the way we want it in football. I’m very pleased, and it’s the way we all like to live – by the rules.

“The rules might not always be very clear, but we try to understand them. This one was very clear, so I’m pleased that everything finished well. Thanks to everybody, especially the club, who did a very good job in hours. You’re supposed to be relaxing on a weekend, but they did well and it’s good news.”

The incident has reignited the debate about an increased use of technology in football, but Poyet would not like to see video replays used to legislate on decisions such as the one that proved so controversial at the weekend.

Poyet said: “I’m not going to go against what I believe in, and I think football is so nice because there are issues and that allows us to comment and talk about it. If football becomes mathematics, and everything has to be perfect, I think it will become a bit more boring.

“That’s my opinion, and even then you will still get controversies because I remember the Jozy Altidore penalty at Chelsea last season. I was listening to the television, and the two pundits on TV could not agree after watching five replays.

“So how long are you going to delay a game? How many hours is a difficult game going to last? Is that really what we want? Maybe I’m a little bit old-fashioned, but I don’t.

“The goalline technology has worked well, but the rest, I would leave it like it is. I know some other managers want technology, but I’m sure that if the technology goes against them five times in a row, they are not going to be happy.”

Sunderland will be without Will Buckley and Emanuele Giaccherini tomorrow as the duo have both been ruled out because of injury.
