A TOWN council has pledged to look into suitable locations for new potentially life-saving defibrillators.
Richmond Town Council invited members of the Richmond branch of the British Heart Foundation to see how the defibrillators are used at its meeting on Monday, February 23.
Thanks to fundraising by Maureen Gibbon of Richmond BHF, the council would have to raise £400 with the charity paying the remaining £600 to make up the £1,000 price tag.
Councillor John Harris said he would like to see the council provide a defibrillator.
He added: “I think it’s our public responsibility to have one if we can.”
Cllr Linda Curran said all defibrillators are registered with Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and there was a map showing where the machines were situated so the council could see where they were most needed in the Richmond area.
Cllr Stuart Parsons said: “We need to speak to the Ambulance Service to find out where the gaps are – we might need to look at getting two or three.”
Councillors were all in favour of looking to buy at least one for the town.
