A MAN from North Yorkshire has appeared in court facing 23 charges of rape.

Nicholas Dalby, from Thirsk, appeared before Northallerton Magistrates today (Friday, February 6).

The 43-year-old, formerly of Breighton Road in Bubwith, near Selby, who is now living on Norby Estate, Thirsk, is facing multiple charges of rape and indecent assault.

He is charged with 14 counts of rape on a girl under the age of 16, two indecent assaults on a girl under the age of 14, nine counts of raping a female aged 16 or over, an attempted rape on a girl under the age of 16 and sexually touching a female aged 13 or over.

The offences all took place between 2001 and 2005 in the Thirsk district.

Mr Dalby did not speak other to confirm his address and that he understood the charges he was facing.

The case was referred straight to crown court and he will appear at Teesside Crown Court in Middlesbrough on February 20 for an initial hearing.

He was granted unconditional bail.
