MIDDLESBROUGH Roller Hockey secured a 6-4 win over Bury St Edmunds in the National Premier League.

Boro travelled with a depleted squad due to work commitments and injuries, but they started well with a goal in the first minute from Peter Lonsdale.

After a good team move and quick break, Nic Johnson added another before two quick goals from the Cambridgeshire team drew them level.

Boro took the initiative straight away and goals from Owen Stewart and another two from Johnson made the half time score 5-3. The second half was a much tighter affair and after Johnson was sent off for two minutes following a foul, both teams scored, Boro's through Stewart. The visitors then strangled the game and finished with a great 6-4 result.

Captain Stewart said: “We showed great team spirit and fight today. That was a big three points helping us catch our championship rivals Kings Lynn who were at the match watching us.”

Two games will be hosted at Middlesbrough Rainbow Centre this weekend, Sat 31 sees Middlesbrough Premier League play Project Under-20s with a 4.15pm start. On Sunday, February 1 Middlesbrough face Halifax with a 2.15pm start.
