A BOY who was hit by a bus on his way to school in York is doing well in hospital, police have said.

The 11-year-old, who was riding his bike to a nearby secondary school, was hit by the number four service on Tadcaster Road near to the junction with Pulleyn Drive at 8.10am on Friday and was trapped underneath the vehicle.

He was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from injuries to his arms and legs after being attended to by a doctor who crawled underneath the bus to treat the youngster.

The road was closed between Pulleyn Drive and the traffic lights at Hob Moor for more than four hours while officers carried out an investigation.

North Yorkshire Police have confirmed the boy is in a comfortable condition in hospital.
