ANTIQUES collectors could reel in a good catch when an auction house holds s specialist sporting sale

Among the items up for auction at Addisons of Barnard Castle on February 5 is a rare 1920’s fishing reel which is expected to reach between £2,500 to £3,500.

The Allcock’s Aerial Rollerback 4.5 inch reel is much sought after by collectors and forms part of a large selection of quality fishing rods and reels included in the sale.

“We are confident that this particular reel will attract a keen amount of interest on the day,” said auctioneer Simon Nixon.

“To most angling fans, the Allcocks Aerial Rollerback exudes an understated elegance, instantly recognisable style and top-quality workmanship, all of which makes it so popular with collectors.”

Also represented in the sale are a large number of firearms, including a P Beretta side-by-side sporting gun carrying a guide price of £1,000 to £1,500 and a Kimber 22-250 rifle based upon a M96 Mauser action, estimated to reach about £500 to £800.

As well as sporting books and prints, the sale also contains a wide selection of clothing.
