AN unforgettable house party is the inspiration behind one of the region’s first electronic music festivals with camping this summer.

The Northbridge Music Festival will take place in a secret rural location near Fishburn in County Durham on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19.

The event will celebrate house, techno, funk and soul music from established and upcoming DJs, with the line-up to be revealed next month.

Organiser Ben Tinkler, from Bolam, near West Auckland, named the festival after a house in Bishop Auckland where he attended an unforgettable party.

“It was just a great night,” he said.

“We listened to everything from modern house music to 1970s funk and soul and danced a lot too. “It’s unusual to find all these genres together, which is why I decided to organise the festival.”

At the weekend, the 23-year-old support worker launched a ‘crowdfunding’ campaign to raise £3,000 in 30 days to pay for a 40 metre-waterslide.

The idea is for people to make a small donation towards the slide in return for rewards, including unlimited free turns on the slide if they attend the festival and free downloads.

Following discussions with the police, Mr Tinkler has chosen a site away from residential areas to avoid any disruption.

The festival will also use green energy and offer rewards for recycling.

Five hundred festival tickets, priced from £40, will be released next month.
