A YOUNG woman raised £1,187 to thank hospital breast cancer care teams for looking after her aunt.

Anna Munford, from Shildon, County Durham, was so impressed at the care her aunt, Loraine Lye, received after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in June that she decided to dedicate her 21st birthday party on December 2 to fundraising for the University Hospital of North Tees’ breast unit and the Mara unit at Bishop Auckland Hospital.

In a surprise visit, Anna - accompanied by her auntie Loraine - recently returned to the UHNT in Stockton to present half the amount raised and thank staff for the care they provided.

The next stop was Bishop Auckland to present staff at the Mara unit with the other half.

Loraine said: "The care I got was marvellous. I couldn't fault it. I'm so proud of Anna and what she's done. It's lovely to be able to give something back for the care I received."

Breast care nurse Claire Moody said: "It's really lovely of Loraine, Anna and all their family and friends to think of us. We'll use this very kind donation to help make life easier for future patients."
