A SECONDARY school has enjoyed a winter term of sporting success and special guests.

The Wensleydale School's Year 11 boys football team remains in three cup competitions.

The team beat teams from Richmond School and St Francis Xavier, in Richmond, to reach the final of the area competition.

In the county cup they are unbeaten, having beaten Ermysted's Grammar School, from Skipton, and Boroughbridge High School to reach the quarter finals.

The team has also reached the quarter finals of the Esfa National Cup, having beaten Nidderdale School, Ormesby School, Howden School, from Howden, near Hull, and most recently, previous winners of the competition Seaton Burn College, from Tyneside, who they defeated 2-0.

They now face a school from Manchester, with the chance of making the final which is played at a Football League ground.

Elsewhere in the school, both the U14 and U16 girls badminton teams won the area tournament to qualify for the county round next term.

The school welcomed some special guests this term, including former world Thai-boxing champion Rachael MacKenzie, who worked with several groups talking about her battle to get to the top in her chosen sport.

The school was also visited by several disabled athletes from Catterick Garrison who took part in this year's Invictus Games.
