CONNOR BEASLEY is only two wins away from riding out his claim after partnering Bint Dandy to success at Lingfield on Tuesday.

Beasley, who is from Spennymoor and is one of the regular riders at Michael Dods’ yard at Denton, near Piercebridge, made the long trip south for one ride, but the move paid dividends as Chris Dwyer’s filly justified favouritism at 6-4.

Beasley displayed commendable patience to wait for a gap to open up in the home straight, but the success means he is even closer to losing his tag as one of Britain’s leading apprentices.

With just two more winners to go, he is likely to have left the apprentice ranks by the time the new turf season begins, although that should not affect his ability to pick up rides given the high regard in which he is held by a number of trainers.

“Connor is a really good lad,” said Dwyer, who uses the North-Easterner fairly regularly during the winter. “His 3lb claim is invaluable, but it won’t last much longer.

“His feedback is always good for such a young man and we like to use him as much as possible.”

REBECCA MENZIES claimed her tenth winner under rules as Revolutionary Road sprung a 28-1 surprise at Musselburgh earlier this week.

Menzies, who was previously assistant to Ferdy Murphy at West Witton, became the youngest trainer in the country when she took over Peter Beaumont’s former yard at Brandsby, near Easingwold, in 2013.

She has since established herself as a handler of some repute, with Revolutionary Road’s victory proving especially notable given that the six-year-old only moved to her yard from Ireland in the summer.

“We were told he needs decent ground, and it was probably too soft for him when he made his debut for us over hurdles,” said Menzies.

Menzies could be back in the winners’ enclosure at Hexham later today as she saddles Samson Collonges in the Intu Eldon Square Thank You Handicap Chase (2.50).

Samson Collonges’ three career wins have all come at Hexham, and after a tune up at Sedgefield recently, today’s anticipated testing ground should be to the eight-year-old’s liking.
