POLICE have renewed appeals for witnesses to a crash in North Yorkshire after a man died when his car hit a tree.

The 44-year-old man has been named as Paul Whitehead, from Harrogate.

Police said they were still trying to trace several drivers who were in the area when the silver Mitsubishi Coupe left the B6165 at Nidd, between Knaresborough and Ripley at 5.20pm on Friday, November 28.

Mr Whitehead’s family paid tribute to him saying he lived life to the full and had a real zest for life. They said he was a keen fisherman and musician, playing in several local groups.

Traffic constable Ken Riley said: “I would like to thank the members of the public who have already come forward, however, we are still trying to trace the drivers of four or five vehicles who we know were in the area at the time, those drivers may not be aware of the significance of what they have seen.

"I would ask that anyone who was driving on the B6165 between Knaresborough and Ripley between 5pm and 5.15pm on Friday, November 28 who were either overtaken by a vehicle or saw a vehicle parked at the side of the road with its hazard lights on to contact me as a matter of urgency.”
