A FREE training workshop designed to encourage disabled sport provision in the Hambleton district will take place next week.

The three-hour session is suitable for anyone who directly supports disabled children within the community – as well as people interested in getting involved.

They will be given the tools needed to support delivery and explore creative ideas that will encourage disabled children to access physical activity and sport. They will also learn about local disability sport opportunities for participants, leaders, volunteers and coaches.

The council’s development officer for health and well-being, David Earl, said: “This is a great training opportunity.

“The training is for individuals who directly support, or wish to support disabled children of all ages within the community to access more sporting opportunities.”

Under the Sainsbury's Active Kids banner, the initiative is being supported by £1m of National Lottery funding from Sport England and is being delivered through the English Federation of Disability Sport and sports coach UK.

The course takes place on Wednesday, December 3 at Mowbray School in Bedale from 6pm to 9pm.
