A PUB will honour the life of one of its regular customers with live music to raise funds for the hospital ward where he was treated in the months before he died.

Ray Patterson, who appeared on the 2012 series of The X Factor, was a popular figure at The Foresters Arms, in Coatham Mundeville, near Darlington.

Following his death from cancer at the age of 79, landlady Kate Umpleby has arranged for band So What, who perform hits by bands such asThe Beatles, the Stereophonics and The Kinks, to perform for free on Saturday, from 9pm.

Entry is free but donations will be taken at the bar to raise funds for ward seven at the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

A story featuring tributes to Mr Patterson received thousands of views on The Northern Echo's website, after a link to the article was tweeted by another former contestant, Rylan Clark.
