A SUSPECTED car thief has been arrested following a fatal collision in Hemlington last night.
The collision took place at around 7.30pm on Cass House Road at the junction with Fordyce Road, involving a silver Ford Fiesta and a silver Hyundai Santa Fe.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, 39-year-old Andrew Corfield, from the Hemlington area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 17-year-old female passenger, who was also travelling in the Fiesta, is in a critical condition in Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital.
An 18-year-old local male has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, causing death by dangerous driving and failing to report the collision.
He remains in police custody this morning.
