A RACECOURSE will offer fun for all the family at its annual armed forces fundraiser.

The Salute Our Heroes Raceday returns to Sedgefield Racecourse in County Durham on Thursday, October 30.

It will feature seven races including the Durham National Handicap Steeplechase Race, with a prize pot of £20,000.

The event will raise funds for ABF The Soldiers Charity and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association (SSAFA), which work together to supported members of the armed forces and their families.

Other highlights will include a military vehicle display, paintball range, climbing wall and the Kid Love the Races Roadshow, offering interesting activities with an educational twist.

Race-goers will also get to listen to a motivational speech by ex-solder Adam Garthwaite from South Shields, South Tyneside.

Mr Garthwaite was almost killed by a rocket attack in Afghanistan and has been supported by the charities.

Jill Williamson, executive director at Sedgefield Racecourse said: “I am very proud that the racecourse has raised more than £80,000 for the armed forces charities over the last five years by taking part in sponsored activities and hosting fundraising events, including concerts and the Miss Durham contest.”

The first race sets off at 1pm and tickets start at £13 when booked in advance.

The Salute Our Soldiers package costs £75 and includes hospitality admission, a three-course lunch and welcome drink, a reserved table and a raceday programme.

A pie and peas package is also available, priced at £15.
