CHOIRS from across the region are being encouraged to sign up for a shopping centre’s singing competition in the run up to Christmas.

The Cornmill Centre in Darlington is calling for talented singers from the town and surrounding area to join the ‘Cornmill Chorus’ and sing to win a cash prize of £1,000.

Winners also get the chance to perform at Darlington’s 2015 Christmas light’s switch on.

From established choirs to those that are newly formed, school choirs to church choirs, both amateur and professional, the Cornmill is calling for groups to send in an audio recording to be in with a chance of being shortlisted.

Visitors to the Cornmill and the centre’s Facebook followers will then have the chance to cast their votes to decide which will make it to the final on December 22.

To enter the Cornmill Chorus – Sing to Win! competition, visit the shopping centre’s website cornmillcentre.co.uk from October 13 and download the entry form.

The public will be able to vote for their favourite choir at a series of competition heats in the run up to Christmas as well as votes cast on the Cornmill’s facebook page.
