A FOUR-CAR collision caused major delays on the A1 motorway this morning (Thursday, October 2) and left one driver with minor injuries.
Emergency services were called to the collision just before 8am on the southbound carriageway between junction 60 at Bradbury and junction 61 at Bowburn.
A Suziki Swift, a Ford S-Max, a Toyota Dyna van and a Mercedes Sprinter were involved in the crash.
The incident was initially thought to have involved five cars but one of the vehicles had stopped to help after the collision.
One driver, a 39-year-old man from Gateshead, suffered minor injuries and was cut from his vehicle, before being transported to Darlington Memorial Hospital
No-one else was injured.
The incident caused major delays but the road was cleared at approximately 11am and traffic returned to normal.
