POLICE have issued an alert after three suspicious incidents at the homes of vulnerable people on the same day.

They took place on September 24 in the Harrogate and Boroughbridge areas and police are now urging residents to be vigilant and keep an eye out for elderly neighbours and friends.

In the first incident a man called at the home of an elderly woman in Harrogate claiming his friend was doing some plumbing work and he needed to turn her water supply off while they carried out the work.

He spent a considerable time in the woman’s house, but nothing was stolen.

In another incident that afternoon, two men called at the Boroughbridge home of an elderly man, claiming there was a water leak and that they needed to check inside.

The pair entered and one began emptying the cupboard under the sink while the other went into the lounge pretending to look for something else.

When the householder challenged them and asked for their details, they refused and quickly left. It was later discovered a wallet with cash had been taken.

In a third incident, two men claiming to be window cleaners, called at the home of a disabled man in Harrogate. They spent time in his property asking questions before leaving, however nothing was stolen.

Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for Harrogate CID. Alternatively, information can be emailed to lesley.raffan@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
