A FATHER-OF-TWO has told of his gratitude after his social housing landlord agreed to make what he claims was a safety hazard in his home safe.

Simon Galloway, 36, claimed his social housing landlord would not repair a two-inch slant affecting his dining room floor.

But a representative of his landlords, Coast and Country Housing, has now called round to the family home at Ormesby, Middlesbrough and offered a compromise solution.

Mr Galloway, a supermarket worker who suffers from arthritis and Sjogren's Syndrome, a form of ME, had originally asked for a new vinyl floor to be laid in his dining room. He explained his two daughters, aged four and seven, have both tripped up several times between the dining room and kitchen.

Coast and Country Housing said that would be a cosmetic change that would be an improper use of funds. But instead they have offered an alternative solution involving plywood boards to be laid down in the dining room vinyl to be cut away from the kitchen and a stretch of carpet to be laid by the floor-bar in the kitchen.

Mr Galloway, who pays £104 a week rent, said: “We would have loved the vinyl floor, but we have to accept we're not going to get that. What we really wanted was just the place being safe. We would like thank to Esme Flounders, who came round, and Iain Sims, the chief executive, for their help and understanding. You have to give credit when it's due after complaining about something."
