NEWCASTLE UNITED have made six changes for this evening's Capital One Cup third-round tie at Crystal Palace.

As expected, Alan Pardew has rung the changes as his side prepare to play at Selhurst Park, with those above him adamant that the cup competitions are not a priority this season.

Pardew could do with a positive result to appease the Newcastle supporters who have been calling for his head since the start of the season, but he has nevertheless promoted a number of his squad's fringe players to the starting line-up.

Rob Elliot replaces Tim Krul, who is suffering from an illness, with Steven Taylor coming in for Mike Williamson at the heart of defence.

Mehdi Abeid replaces Cheick Tiote in a much-changed midfield that also features Gabriel Obertan and Sammy Ameobi, with Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko dropping out of the starting XI.

Adam Armstrong makes his first senior start in place of Remy Cabella, although it remains to be seen whether the youngster plays alongside Emmanuel Riviere in attack or starts in a more withdrawn forward role.

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has changed every one of his players from Sunday's win over Everton, although the likes of Brede Hangeland, Wilfried Zaha, Kevin Doyle and Dwight Gayle are included in the Eagles' starting line-up.

CRYSTAL PALACE (4-4-2): Hennessey; Mariappa, McCarthy, Hangeland, Fryers; Zaha, Guedioura, Williams, Bannan; Doyle, Gayle.
